North Dade Eighth Grader Named One of America’s Top 10 Youth Volunteers

Bria Brown, an eighth grader at North Dade Middle School in Opa Locka, Fla., received the 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award. The program recognizes outstanding achievements in community service.

Bria, a five-year cancer survivor, won $5,000, an engraved gold medallion and a crystal trophy for her school. Additionally, the Prudential Foundation will provide a $5,000 grant to a nonprofit charitable organization of Bria’s choice.
