Refund or Transfer of Fees

If for any reason the applicant cannot take the examination on the scheduled test date, a request for a refund of the registration fee must be made in writing to the FTCE/FELE Program office address listed below. The fee will be refunded only if a written request is received at least 30 days prior to the scheduled examination date for regular administrations or 15 days prior to the scheduled examination date for supplemental administrations. If, for any reason, the applicant fails to take or retake or complete the examination on the scheduled date, the fee will NOT be refunded. However, the fee may be transferred to a subsequent test administration under the conditions described below:

  1. The applicant writes a letter indicating he or she could not take the test on the scheduled test date due to illness of or an injury to the applicant or a member of the applicant's immediate family (immediate family is defined as the applicant's spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren of both the applicant and the spouse), or because of the death of a member of the applicant's immediate family, and requests the fee be transferred to a specific subsequent test administration date.

  2. The illness or injury is attested to by a medical doctor using official stationery or, in the case of death, by a newspaper obituary stating the relationship of the deceased to the applicant.

  3. Both the letter from the applicant and the letter from the doctor or the obituary are received at the FTCE/FELE Program office address listed below no later than 30 days after the scheduled test administration date.

NOTE:
Requests for refunds less than 30 days prior to the test date for regular administrations or 15 days prior to supplemental administrations, and requests for transfers received more than 30 days after the test date, will NOT be honored. No refunds are given if you do not sit for the examination(s) for which you registered.
