Chairman T. Willard Fair to Visit Mater Academy East Charter School
MIAMI — In observance of National Charter Schools Week, State Board of Education Chairman T. Willard Fair tomorrow will visit Mater Academy East Charter School. Chairman Fair will meet with students and present the school with a proclamation. He will also meet the Mater Academy Charter High School band members who just returned from an award-winning performance at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Chairman Fair’s visit was prompted by the academic success of this predominantly Hispanic school. For two consecutive years, Mater Academy East Charter School received a school grade of an ‘A’.
Since 1996, charter schools are among the fastest growing school choice options in Florida. While they are public schools, they are largely free to innovate, and are open to all students, regardless of income, gender, race, or religion. Charter schools tend to attract students who struggle academically and cover a spectrum of educational needs from specializing in the performing arts to technical training.
The event is to be held:
Thursday, May 3, 2007
11:00 a.m.
Mater Academy East Charter Elementary / Middle School
