Department of Education Holds Effective Strategies Institute on Dropout Prevention

The Florida Department of Education today began the 2008 Effective Strategies Institute on Dropout Prevention in Daytona Beach. The Institute provides a statewide forum for sharing and promoting successful programs, research-based strategies and best practices that positively impact student achievement. The Effective Strategies Institute will continue through January 18 at the Daytona Beach Hilton Resort.

The program agenda includes four pre-conference workshops focusing on effective strategies for keeping students in school, leadership skills for parents of at-risk students, classroom management and reducing dropouts by utilizing effective transition strategies. In addition, the Institute features more than 60 workshops on topics ranging from dropout prevention, gang awareness, attendance and truancy, data collection and analysis, programs for teenage parents, the GED Exit Option Model and assistance for students with grade-to-grade promotion and graduation.

The Institute is sponsored by the national Dropout Prevention Center/Network; the Florida Department of Education; 21st Century Community Learning Centers of Florida; the University of Florida; Communities In Schools of Florida, Inc.; Compass Learning; and the Florida Association of Alternative School Educators.
