Welcome to the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council website. The purpose of this Advisory Council is to provide input to the Department of Education on matters relating to apprenticeship. As Commissioner Smith’s designee to the Council, I will be facilitating the meetings. Any recommendations resulting from Council discussions will be forwarded to the Commissioner for his review. I encourage members of the community who would like to communicate relevant ideas, concerns, or questions to do so. In addition, a portion of each meeting will be set aside for public input. However, please note that any items to be included on the agenda may only be introduced by a Council member. My contact information and that of each of the Council members may be found by clicking on “members” on the website menu. The State Advisory Council is a welcome opportunity for those involved with apprenticeship matters to have an open forum to review and analyze issues that impact programs and operations. The DOE staff and I look forward to working with Council members to assure the success of our apprentices, our programs and our organizations.

Section 446.045, F.S. states that the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council to be composed of 10 voting members appointed by the Governor and two ex officio nonvoting members. The Governor shall appoint to the council five members representing sponsors of joint employee organizations and five members representing sponsors of non-joint employer organizations. Each member shall represent industries that have registered apprenticeship programs. Members shall be appointed for 4-year staggered terms.
